Dear Christophe,

I'm writing to you as you are the maintainer of the UMFPACK package
within debian. Recently, the octave project has included a sparse matrix
package based around UMFPACK, and the developer of Octave, John Eaton,
prefer to keep UMFPACK as an external dependency to Octave. However, as
I recently feedback several changes to UMFPACK to its author Tim Davis
to allow octave to use UMFPACK the version 4.3.1 current in debian is
not useable with octave. For this recent could I request that the
package is updated to version 4.4 to allow future versions of octave to
have this dependency...

Regards
David
