Package: installation-report Severity: normal
Boot method: CD (with libata workaround) Image version: d-i etch beta 3 Date: 2006/08/28 Machine: Dell Latitute D510 laptop Processor: Celeron Memory: 1G Partitions: - Output of lspci and lspci -n: - Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [E] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [O] Reboot: [O] Comments/Problems: I've had a problem with the SATA disks : no CD detected, but the workaround described in the errata worked 100% (libata.atapi_enabled=1) Then I've been able to install the laptop (with a french keybeard layout) using the Etch d-i beta 3 in graphical mode. But there are 2 problems : * The shift keys won't work : only Shift-Lock enables upper-case characters input : very bad if silently happens during passwords type-in * Same problem for the "upper row" symbols of the "numbers" keys : unable to type-in numbers, for instance in partition sizes input : I've used the Fn key combination of the Dell laptop keyboard to input the numbers on the "virtual keypad"... Appart from that, installs beautifully ! Note that bluetooth stack tools were not installed although there's a bluetooth chip, and integrated mini-pci ipw2200 wireless card wouldn't work because of no firmware, and without a potential hint for newbie... but I knew how to work around these two issues. Good job with the graphical installer ! -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
