retitle 290837 auto-install nvidia fails with no log
thanks

Hi, I'm the original reporter and wanted to clarify something. I hit the
issue proceeding as instructed on the same HOWTO that Rick mentionned.
The problem was actually that auto-install failed, but I
tried to get the bug down to something more basic, and got down to m-a
build failing. However now that I red that m-a's man page (...) I see that
it's normal that m-a build nvidia fails if one substitutes m-a
auto-install nvidia with it in the procedure in the HOWTO
since nvidia-kernel-source isn't installed. However m-a build should IMO
fail more nicely when a source package is missing. I tried m-a la then
picked two packages at random. m-a build zaptel-source failed in the
same way as reported for nvidia, and acx100 too.
However, m-a auto-install nvidia still fails, which shouldn't be, so
there are two different bugs. Eduard, tell me if you want me to open one
about m-a build's failure when source packages aren't installed.

For auto-install, I've tried it again on my sister's PC (original
submission), after updating to m-a 0.7.5. That worked, proposing to
install several packages among which nvidia-kernel-source.
Therefore, if somebody experiences this problem on a Sarge snapshot
newer than 2005-03-04 (with m-a 0.7.5 instead of the last one we know
failed, 0.7.2), it would be nice to submit system information.

Philippe
