Grah... Goddamn webmail clients - This reply should have been sent
originally to
the bug - I'm including the complete mail just for completeness sake.

Thanks, I'm filing the ITP referring to this bug report.

Wait - Does this mean I should NMU on Perl, or just package this module
independently? Are there many other core Perl modules which carry an extra
package? [...]

Package the module independently. @INC in Debian is ordered to to allow
such modules to take precedence and allow newer versions of modules in
the Perl core to be updated without needing to rebuild all of perl.

See Perl Policy 4.1:

"The Perl distribution includes many modules available separately from
CPAN, which may have a newer version. The intent of the [EMAIL PROTECTED]'
ordering (described in Section 2.3, `Module Path') is to allow such
modules to be packaged to <vendor> which take precedence over the
version in <core>. A packaged module which shadows a <core> module in
this way must be a newer version."

[...] I believe this to be unnecessary overhead, but... I'll do as you
instruct me to.

The overhead is minimal.
