I can reproduce this problem.  If you remove hal, acpid can start 
without problems.  It seems if hald starts after acpid, it works (or at 
least starts cleanly).  But hald is started by udev, so it's hard to 
control that order sensibly.

Now the problem is that for example powersaved needs both hal and acpid.  
powersaved is in turn used by kpowersave.  But if you can't install the 
dependencies together, the whole group of packages becomes useless.
