Here's how to disable autostart manually. Create a file "mail-notification.desktop" in "~/.config/autostart" with that content:
[Desktop Entry] Name=mail-notification Encoding=UTF-8 Version=1.0 Exec=mail-notification --sm-disable X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false You can also disable mail-notification's autostart with gnome-session-properties. Reach it via the menu Desktop->Preferences->Sessions. See the third tab.
