Ah, I see what's going on now. It's hitting the BUG statement in dm-snapshot.c::do_origin(), but EVMS provides a work-around for this issue. You should apply evms-2.5.1/kernel/2.4/dm-snapshot.patch to your kernel before using snapshots with EVMS. I'd also recommend reading over http://evms.sourceforge.net/install/kernel.html just to make sure you have all the DM kernel patches necessary for your system.
