Upstream is aware of the "new" issue and Charles Kerr provided a patch to add the Cancel and Supersede functionality: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=71108&action=view Maybe you could add this patch to the Debian package, so the code could be officially tested.
