I guess the easiest hack would be, in doc/Makefile: replace install-data-am: install-info-am with install-data-am: . Remove doc/automake* from the tarball. debian/ stuff probably needs very little changes. I don't think there's an easy way to build without the info stuff without patching the upstream buildsystem :( . A new automake1.9-nonfree source and binary package could hold the pure original upstream tarball, and just install the info stuff. I'll work more on this, following this idea, the coming week.
