Package: discover
Version: 2.1.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

with 2.1.0-1 you stopped shipping an init-script for discover claiming:
  * Do not install init.d script, and remove traces of it if present.
It is no longer useful as udev do a much better job based on the
/lib/modules/*/modules.* files provided by the kernel.

This claim is obviously not true for 2.4 systems without any udev
support at all (nor is it for early 2.6 systems where udev support is
not available anymore - at least not by the Debian package).
Furthermore, enforced removal of the init-script could also break
previously running systems (since I don't know such a system I'll keep
the current severity of this bug at wishlist, but expect it to be raised
sooner or later :)).

Therefor: please continue shipping an init-script with discover.
It would probably be a good idea to stop it's execution on systems where
udev is running (if you have nice ideas how to detect a running udev,
please also tell this to #381203).

Btw: Currently, not even the sample init-script is shipped within the
package, so interested users have to dig into the package sources to
find it.
And further btw: The actual init-script (from the sources :)) runs
discover-modprobe twice: once conditional with or without -v, once
unconditional with -v.

Thanks for your work & regards
   Mario

Independence Day: Fortunately, the alien computer operating system works just
fine with the laptop. This proves an important point which Apple enthusiasts
have known for years. While the evil empire of Microsoft may dominate the
computers of Earth people, more advanced life forms clearly prefer Macs.
