OK, please try this (gtk assumes that typing is something for expert
mode:
you can switch the folder by just starting to type '/'.
for the folder you are currently into, there is a feature
'find-as-you-type' like one knows from firefox et al. you just have to
start typing. Can you please try and confirm that this sufficient for
you as an expert?
I guess otherwise this is a gtk+ bug ... e.g. if you mean that this
feature should be exposed more explicitly.
