Hi Michael,

I ran this updated information by Howard Chu (primary OpenLDAP developer), since I couldn't see why changing the user would cause behavior changes. He asked the following:

[13:21] Howard Chu: have you checked permissions on /dev/random or /dev/urandom ? [13:21] Howard Chu: have you checked to see if libssl is dynamically linked, and the root user is getting a different library path than the openldap user?


So having the answer to that would be useful. ;)
