At my last job, I ran PHP in a corporate environment on dozens of webservers. From this experience, including performance tuning, I have a hard time believing that someone who would spend 1500 (or more, depending on licensing) to get more performance from PHP would be running Debian's prepackaged "everything to everyone" PHP packages. Debian's packages are tuned for "as many features as possible", which tends to be the complete antithesis of speed. It's not THAT hard to recompile if your needs are special. MOST Debian users will certainly NOT be using the Zend Platform. If I were to take a survey, I'm sure that apache2-mpm-worker users will outnumber Zend Platform users by a pretty healthy margin. ...
