Sorry, I hadn't understood you were the only administrator. Looking at the package list, the only packages related to GConf are maintained by the GNOME team and I'm pretty sure none of them would have done that. I have also checked that dpkg doesn't retry the prerm after the postrm has failed a first time. If you manage to reproduce the bug, please gather some information on the state of the problematic package at that moment, especially whether other files it should contain are present on the system and whether .schemas files from other packages are present. -- .''`.
