I have a script that uses aptitude to produce an aptfoster like list,
Aptitude gave out a truncated version of your package name. Reportbug
also only got as far as libaqbanking-plugins-libgw in an 80 column
screen.
I admit that the package name is quite long, but it's not too long (thus
severity wishlist). At least I find no restrictions besides the minimum
of 2 characters concerning the length of a package name, neither in the
Debian Policy nor in the Debian Developer's Reference. So I see no
technical reason why I shouldn't. Thus I wouldn't consider this a bug at
all and tend to close this report if you do not contradict.
Since I didn't find any shorter but yet unambiguous package name I
choosed this name. If you suggest an alternative that I like I'll
consider renaming the package - but I don't promise to do so.
Since you gave no details on how you call aptitude I can only guess what
could help to solve your problem (if appropriate):
- use -F %p for displaying the package name only
- use -w <width> with a value greater than 88
I hope that helps.
Greetings
Micha
