It isn't pending, as I don't have any source tree with the patch applied
yet.

I haven't forwarded it, no. As the code shows, upstream is an expert in
breaking things, and furthermore they are not very communicative. I
haven't yet made the effort to get enough in touch with them to explain
them how to do things cleanly, as I'm pretty sure this would be a long
and hard task.
