I can't reproduce either, and it has been reported that 0.2.6 (on debian unstable) worked on amd64. I don't know if it's a problem with mousepad 0.2.4 on amd64, as I couldn't find somebody on etch/amd64. 0.2.6 in unstable need Xfce 4.4Beta2 so I guess you'll have to wait for the transition to propagate to Etch.
