Please double check that the files in /etc/modprobe.d/ and
/lib/modules/2.6.17/modules.* are not corrupted.
I expect that the files contain binary data or some binary was copied in
the configuration directory.

The kernel.org version works only because it lacks the bug fix which
displays that warning.
