If I remove the line:
set header_cache="~/.mutt/cache/"
then it works fine.
If I put that line back again then it segfaults again.

Run the command:

   rm -f ~/.mutt/cache/*

And your mutt should start working again.

Mutt has had a few incompatible changes to it’s header cache format, and seems incapable of discovering that fact reliably. Fortunately, deleting the cache is the easy one-step fix (that’s what mutt would do if it could detect that the header cache is too old).
