'lspci' is short for "list all PCI devices", it is also the computerprogram that reveals hardware information. There are in Debian-Installer two ways to start that program. Select in the main-menu "shell" or press 'ALT-F2'[1] then type lspci lspci -n > Base System Installation Checklist: > [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it > > Initial boot worked: [O] > Configure network HW: [E] > Config network: [ ] > Detect CD: [O] > Load installer modules: [ ] > Detect hard drives: [ ] > > Comments/Problems: My motherboard has an nForce chipset which I rely on for > network functionality. Example of where it _can_ work is, when the driver expects the networkcard at IObase 0x300 or 0x280, but your card has actual it's IObase at 0x310, then you supply the parameter 'io=310'. I doubt that supplying extra parameters to the forcedeth will help you. "a nForce chipset" does _not_ mean that the forcedeth can be used.
