The chance that this was #358526 are...incredibly high as the
description of this bug exactly fits the "st" ligature problem in
FreeSerif which I fixed yesterday.

Please update to the latest ttf-freefont (20060501cvs-8) and report
whether this fixes your problem.

If you're running testing, you can still pick the ttf-freefont package
in unstable: there should not be any dependency problem.
