OK, I got confirmation from upstream developers on IRC. Thanks to Lieven Govaerts (lgo) and Daniel Rall (dlr_h). <peterS> so, it seems there exists some java 1.1 functionality which is deprecated in java 2 and not necessarily provided by the newest JVMs. does anyone know whether svn-javahl cleanly works on new JVMs? <lgo> peterS: I'm using svn-javahl with java 1.4.2 and 1.5 (on Windows, Sun's jre/jdk) <peterS> lgo: "works with sun java 5" is a good enough answer for me, for the present. thanks. <dlr_h> peterS: I'm also using 1.4.2. <peterS> dlr_h: the question came up whether the debian package should depend on 'java1-runtime | java2-runtime' or just 'java1-runtime'. the distinction is that if a J2RE doesn't provide full 1.1 compatibility, it doesn't satisfy 'java1-runtime' <dlr_h> peterS: I'd guess that java1-runtime would be sufficient, but I haven't tested that. <peterS> dlr_h: right, the question is whether java2-runtime would also be sufficient. given that lgo claims to use it with sun java 1.5, I figure it is. <dlr_h> java2-runtime is definitely sufficient
