Package: unixodbc-dev Followup-For: Bug #334681
I agree with moving the GUI dependencies to Recommended, in my case, I'm trying to compile some software that depends of /usr/include/odbcinst.h on a _minimum_ and _headless_ Debian server. Installing unixodbc-dev will then install these packages: defoma fontconfig fontconfig-config libaudio2 libfontconfig1 libfreetype6 libice6 libjpeg62 liblcms1 libltdl3-dev libmng1 libodbcinstq1c2 libpng12-0 libqt3-mt libsm6 libx11-6 libx11-data libxau6 libxcursor1 libxdmcp6 libxext6 libxfixes3 libxft2 libxi6 libxinerama1 libxrandr2 libxrender1 libxt6 ttf-dejavu ucf unixodbc-dev x11-common So, is not nice to have ttf fonts and x11 packages on a headless server. The problem maybe is that Steve thinks that an *-dev package is one that you only use on your workstation, to "develop", but *-dev packages usually contains headers needed for compilation, and on the *nix world it's usual to compile on servers. I don't know of another non-GUI *-dev package with GUI dependencies, unixodbc-dev seems to be the exception, so having them is bad. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
