oh, i missed that. sorry. the similarity exists however between it being 
run as root/sudo'ed and normal user. however, i do get the same error
from a kernel build WRT changelog parsing (error 13).

nope. at the time it was an ordinary 2.6.15.7 kernel, only diff is
that it was built for a p3/500, intel chipset mobo.
