Further information: I have discovered that while my workaround does
enable dovecot to be run from inetd the results are still slightly
unexpected. If the access permissions in /etc/hosts.{allow,deny} are
different for the imap and imaps services, the entry for imaps is
ignored, and the permissions for both services are controlled by the
