Thanks for the additional details. It certainly appears as if the splay tree is messed up and I've in fact gotten this reported before but I've never managed to repeat it myself and I've never understood the reason or figured out a fix.
I pretty much rely on that someone who can repeat this problem can either make a stand-alone(*) app that can repeat it and make that source code available, or that someone can debug the case for us and figure out why it happens.
(*) - as I have no desire to download and run the whole frigging bzflag just for this purpose and its not even sure I can repeat the problem even then.
