The rsyslog package fails to build from source on the hppa architecture since quite some time, because the build hangs for 3 hours and then gets killed by

It's correct that rsyslog has been failing to build on hppa for a long time. But the addition of gdb is very recent [1] and most likely not the cause, but only a symptom.
It's the test suite, that doesn't pass on hppa.
