I've found the repository in the Python team and I intended to fix bug
#1130631. So I uploaded with Vcs fields set and the obvious intention
to maintain the package in DPT.
Upgrading to latest upstream is not straightforward. I've dropped some
notes in a patch that seems to be needed for version 2.0.1 which
hopefully helps you to keep on with this.
