I created /dev/fd as a symlink to /proc/self/fd and now it works ok, so
maybe the problem is a missing dependency in foomatic-filters or cupsys
to a package that creates that symlink in his postinst script?
Sounds like a problem with udev/devfs/MAKEDEV on your system -
/dev/fd/* should be present by default on any Debian box.
