So I looked at your wpasupplicant.hotplug script and it looks OK, but I
would rather see the driver detection part moved to the init.d script.

I wholehartedly agree; as I said, the script was hacked up for my own purposes and the detection should be moved out of it for easy reuse.

What still needs to be done is (if Kyle wants this):

* Finish the detection function in the init.d script for the missing
drivers. I only use ndiswrapper so I can't test it. Maybe ask on
  debian-laptop?

In the meantime the detection could be an 'experimental' option, to be switched on after dire warnings about it's usefulnes. After all, it only supports about half the interfaces, most of them not tested.

* Modify debconf to support the new functionality.

As the functionality closely mimics ifplugd's, that package's debconf handling can be reused.

* Maybe add support for /sys/class/net style detection next to
/proc/net/wireless? Same goes for driver detection.

For driver detection I found /sys/class/net to be fairly useless.
