I took another look at this, but unfortunately I still couldn't find a good solution. About a year ago, I pushed a workaround to Salsa to disable test execution on architectures other than amd64, but I never uploaded it because, as Santiago mentioned here, the FTBFS bug is still still present on amd64 when the package is built on a single-CPU system. I think the most sensible next step would be to update the package to the latest upstream release and continue investigating from there. However, I don't expect to have the bandwidth to work on this in the foreseeable future.
