(I didn't hit reply-all for my original response, so I'm resending it)

I'm using the stock Debian kernel (not building it myself):

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.8-3-386 ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian
1:3.3.5-13)) #1 Thu May 25 01:26:08 UTC 2006

Default gcc on my system appears to be the same version:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.5/specs
Configured with: ../src/configure -v
--enable-languages=c,c++,java,f77,pascal,objc,ada,treelang --prefix=/usr
--mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info
--with-gxx-include-dir=/usr/include/c++/3.3 --enable-shared
--enable-__cxa_atexit --with-system-zlib --enable-nls
--without-included-gettext --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-debug
--enable-java-gc=boehm --enable-java-awt=xlib --enable-objc-gc i486-linux
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)

And that's the only gcc I have installed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg --get-selections| grep gcc
gcc                                             install
gcc-3.3                                         install
gcc-3.3-base                                    install
libgcc1                                         install

This system is an almost totally pristine sarge install.
