Excuse me for the delay since your bug was filed. I have tried to reproduce this bug on several systems - some, yes, are desktop systems with no APM/ACPI functionality, but I have tried this in my laptop system (i386 APM) and two others (PPC PMU), and I cannot get this bug to happen. xosview _does_ report a warning, but it is a valid one: Warning: meter BtryMeter had a negative value of -1.000000 for field 0 It keeps on working correctly afterwards when I re-insert the battery. It also works correctly (with the same warning) if I start it without the battery and insert it later. ----- UPDATE: I just checked on a i386 ACPI system, and it does react just as you reported. Well, at least it is ACPI-specific. I will dig into this soon, I am getting on an airplane in some more minutes.
