As far as I can see, the 3D rendering capability is not implemented in gwyddion 3, at least not for now. The package has dropped off Debian testing due to #967514, so it will be necessary to bump to gwyddion 3 in unstable soon anyway. Hopefully this will work well enough for common uses, -- .''`.
