No. For this particular package, GBP repository layout is counter
productive and even *harmful*. 

Use `origtargz` (or `uscan`) to acquire upstream sources. `origtargz`
is a very reliable tool that can also fetch upstream tarball from
Debian mirrors (hence making "upstream" and "pristine-tar" branches
obsolete).

You should be able to build package in a traditional way, e.g.
  https://salsa.debian.org/onlyjob/notes/-/wikis/bp

Feel free to adjust "gbp.conf" so that GBP could build from
"debian/"-only repository layout.
