We are using VLC to multicast-stream a DVB-T signal as MPEG transport stream on
our local network. When VLC is just started, "top" reports a resident memory
consumption 270 MB. Eventually this value rises to around 850 MB, after which
the computer begins to swap heavily, which causes a huge packet loss in the
transport stream, and makes it impossible to view the stream.
The command used start vlc is:

As a workaround we restart VLC via a cron job.
