I'm working on this in https://debusine.debian.net/debian/developers-cjwatson-pygments/ - it looks as though quite a few packages need to be updated. It's almost certainly the path of least resistance to move forward at this point, though. I'll prepare as many of these as I can.

OK, there was a good deal of interference in these results from other existing FTBFS bugs, but I think the set that needs to be fixed is:

 * diff-cover
 * pydata-sphinx-theme
 * pymdown-extensions
 * python-readme-renderer
 * python-stack-data
 * rich
 * ruby-pygments.rb

I've updated the first five of these, and filed #1124390 against ruby-pygments.rb. Can you do rich?
