To address your concern, I cloned the derived work repository of wbar on github, https://github.com/ivanfitenko/wbar by Ivan Fitenko. And I modified it to adjust to the current build system, and released it as version 2.4.2. https://github.com/hmatrjp/wbar/releases/tag/wbar-2.4.2 adopting most Debian patches for wbar, including the one I attached to the original report of this bug.
