Thanks for your report, first, make sure you are running the latest one in unstable, which is 1:2.6.1-2. I doubt that does much different, but I cannot reproduce the crash, neither on unstable, or a backported geeqie 1:2.6.1-2 to stable. It does take quite some time with such a big image, but it loads fine for me.
