Hi, I believe this issue has been addressed upstream in commit
https://code.blinkace.com/pdw/iftop/-/commit/949ed0f7e2c54c598868c270b82c2d702131a339 The same problem is also described in Red Hat bug report https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1403025 I'm not sure if that fully addresses all of your suggestions regarding the use of the default route but the fix appears to be a plausible solution for this bug report.
