I suspend my workstation in night, and inform users (a few including myself) by invoking 'wall' with a Warning message a few minutes before the workstation Sleeps at a particular time in the night. However, after upgrading to Trixie, it does not beep the terminals or send any message to users. As notified, there is no 'utmp' support by default, and probably 'wall' does not get the list of users logged in. Therefore, I installed 'wtmpdb' package, and 'last' is linked to 'wtmpdb'. Invoking 'last' works. However, I still find 'wall File_name' invoked as root still produces no response to me in a different Terminal (logged in through 'ssh'). Therefore, I consider this as a bug. As 'wall' stops working, it significantly increases the problem of Root to notify users of any issues or impending System Shutdown immediately. Therefore, it needs to be fixed. Please note that 'wall' works fine from my other system running 'bookworm'. -- System Information: Debian Release: 13.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'oldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldstable-security'), (500, 'oldoldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldoldstable-security'), (500, 'oldoldstable'), (500, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.12.43+deb13-amd64 (SMP w/20 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages bsdutils depends on: ii libc6 2.41-12 ii libsystemd0 257.8-1~deb13u1 Versions of packages bsdutils recommends: ii bsdextrautils 2.41-5 bsdutils suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
