Have you changed plugin priorities in your configuration?
It should really use the libmpeg2 plugin instead of ffmpeg for DVDs. The
libmpeg2 plugin has some extensions that improve DVD performance and
enable some features required by the dvdnav based DVD playback.
At the same time, MPEG2 support in ffmpeg is poor, if not broken...
