During a brief check I, too, was unable to reproduce the problem with apt-utils 0.6.44.2. That's weird because I looked at a diff of 0.6.44.1 vs. 0.6.44.2 and couldn't make out any change that could be relevant to this problem (I skipped reading the autoconf-related changes, though). I don't understand how the patch provided by Michael Vogt could possibly make a difference, either, but maybe my C++ is just too rusty. Should I downgrade to apt-utils 0.6.44.1 and try to reproduce the bug?
