Control: tags -1 upstream

Thanks for the patch, but I'm hesitant to apply it (in git) as we can't
upstream git.

The 4.4.0 release will drop FORTRAN 77 and NetCDF 2.3.2 support which will
allow us to drop the -alt packages and greatly simplify the build.

This will likely also solve or at least ease cross building.

The release is tentatively scheduled for February 2026, but that's likely to
slip as the May 2025 4.3.1 release hasn't happened yet.

I've already announced my intention to drop the variant with Fortran and NetCDF
support [0], doing that for the 4.4.0 release would be ideal, but I may not
wait for that and do the package reworking earlier in the forky development
cycle.

Kind Regards,
