I have confirmed this problem still affects xfce4 4.20 in trixie, and results in synaptic failing silently when launched from menu. Installing lxpolkit and adding it to startup works fine. Is there a way to promote this bug to show up on the list of bugs for xfce4? To see it I had to check "repeat merged". One easy solution is for this bug is for package maintainer to add to xfce4 package recommends xfce-polkit|lxpolkit|policykit-1-gnome.
