You may consider doing either -- so long as you follow through and take over maintainership/fix the issues for real or pinkey swear to reassign the bug back/remove the tag (actually). Maybe set a deadline and calendar invite as a reminder. Do keep in mind a removal isn't the worst case here since you may always reupload the package to NEW.
