You can remove xfce4 package, it won't harm your xfce4 installation,
it's only a metapackage (with some NEWS and README inthere), with
default dependency to provide a consistent Xfce environment for new
users. Xfce -is- modular so you can remove any package you want.

Default applications provided with xfce4 metapackage is only a matter of
taste, I guess. I like it like that, and apt frontends install
automatically Recommends:

As said, you can remove safely any package without doing any harm to
your installation.
