Dear Maintainer, I just got bit by this as I wanted to change the default umask. Spent some time exhaustively looking through /etc/profile, /etc/profile.d/ and the things source by the contents of those things, just to find out a while ago Debian always sets umask via PAM now. Maybe after 15 years this can get fixed in Trixie before it hits stable? -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.12.22-amd64 (SMP w/16 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages bash depends on: ii base-files 13.7 ii debianutils 5.22 ii libc6 2.41-7 ii libtinfo6 6.5+20250216-2 Versions of packages bash recommends: ii bash-completion 1:2.16.0-7 Versions of packages bash suggests: pn bash-doc <none> -- no debconf information
