I take it that you don't have a NIC at all? AFAICS, finish-install should create a /etc/network/interfaces even if nothing else manages to, in its 50config-target-network. In that case the interfaces file would only have a definition for the loopback interface. Can you send a copy of the logs from /var/log/installer to this address? -- see shy jo
