libgrokj2k embeds a Perl interpreter in ./src/lib/codec/common/exif.cpp. The development package required for doing so is libperl-dev. It happens to work by chance now, but as we are looking into removing libcrypt-dev from the build-essential package set[1], libgrokj2k will fail to build from source if it lacks this dependency. The actual dropping of libcrypt-dev from build-essential is not going to happen during the trixie freeze but some months into the forky cycle. The addition of libperl-dev to Build-Depends is safe for inclusion into trixie, but it does not warrant an upload of its own. Helmut [1] https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2025/04/msg00113.html
